Frequently asked questions

What is Moments Matter Counseling?

Moments Matter Counseling is a private practice dedicated to helping parents, children, teens, and families navigate life’s challenges. Whether you’re managing parenting stress, addressing a child’s behavior, supporting a teen with anxiety or depression, or working to reconnect as a couple, I’m here to help.

Using evidence-based approaches like CBT, PCIT, and EMDR, I provide personalized support in a safe, compassionate space to empower meaningful growth.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

How long you’ll need therapy depends on your goals and needs. PCIT for young children typically takes 12–20 sessions, while teens and adults may require a more flexible timeline. We’ll regularly assess progress and adjust as needed to find the right pace for you.

What if counseling isn't helping?

Therapy takes teamwork and time, but if it doesn’t feel effective, please let me know. We can adjust the focus, explore new approaches, or try something different.

If another type of support feels like a better fit, I can provide resources to help you find what works best. My priority is ensuring you or your family get the support you need.

What is your cancellation policy?

Life happens—kids, teens, and even parents get sick! As a mom and someone who works closely with families, I completely understand how quickly germs can spread. Still, my priority is helping you and your family make meaningful progress in therapy.

Here’s how we handle cancellations:

  • Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel.

  • Can’t make it in? We can switch to a video session or a parent consultation session during that time instead.

  • If you need to cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment, a $100 fee will be charged.

  • If notice of less than 4 hours or no notice is given the full rate will be charged.

If you start feeling sick more than 24 hours before your session, let me know so we can adjust your appointment. This also allows me to offer that time to another family who needs it.

In the event I must cancel your appointment due to illness or emergency, you will not be charged and we will reschedule promptly. Additionally, if I provide less than 24 hours' notice for my cancellation, a credit will be applied to your account. This specific credit can be redeemed in the future to excuse one late-cancellation fee should you experience your own unexpected emergency.

How often are therapy sessions?

Session frequency depends on your needs and goals. Most clients start with weekly sessions, adjusting to biweekly or monthly as progress is made.

For PCIT, weekly sessions are recommended to maintain consistency. We’ll work together to find a schedule that works best for you.

How long is each session?

Sessions are range from approximately 45 mins to 55 minutes depending on the service and the client's needs. For youth individual sessions, the first 5-10 minutes are reserved for a parent check-in to discuss updates or concerns, with the rest focused on your child or teen.

How do you keep my/my child's information secure?

Your privacy is my top priority. I use strictly HIPAA-compliant platforms to protect your information: Sessions Health for encrypted clinical records and secure portal messaging, Headway for separate and seamless billing, and Google Meet/Workspace (backed by a formal BAA) for highly secure telehealth sessions.

Lets get started!

How do I get started?

Getting started is easy! You can sign up for a consultation here. Once you’ve signed up, I’ll reach out to confirm the details and discuss your goals and concerns.

If we’re a good fit, we’ll schedule your first session and go over any necessary paperwork. I’ll guide you through the process and ensure you feel comfortable every step of the way.

What can I expect in my first session?

In your first session, we’ll discuss your goals and what brought you to therapy. I’ll ask questions to understand your concerns and background.

For children, we may talk with you, the parent(s), about your child’s behavior and needs. For teens or adults, we’ll focus on what you hope to achieve.

We’ll also cover logistics like scheduling, fees, expectations, and confidentiality. This session is your chance to ask questions and ensure you feel comfortable moving forward.

Can I be involved in my child's therapy?

Yes! Parent involvement is crucial, especially with young children. In approaches like PCIT, you'll actively participate in sessions to strengthen your connection and address behaviors.

For teens, involvement depends on their needs and preferences. I’ll keep you informed as appropriate, especially with goal-setting and progress. Your partnership is key to creating lasting change, and I’ll ensure you feel supported throughout the process.
